After missing the bronze medal by 5 seconds and coming 4th in the London 2012 Olympics Spiros Gianniotis promised to return!!
True to his word, Corfu-born half-English Spiros Gianniotis, now aged 35 years, came second, wining the silver medal, in the 10K marathon swimming event in Rio yesterday. Even though he swam to the finish together with Dutch, Ferry Weertman, he delayed by miliseconds to touch the finish board and lock in his times!!
He was armed with extra motivation and “palikaria” (as they say in Greece) in the last meters, giving it all to what was his final opportunity to win an Olympic medal.
